TORONTO - The governing Liberals announced Tuesday they will be doling out $12 million to grape growers in hopes of strengthening Ontario's wine industry.

The money will allow growers to move towards more popular grape varieties and protect their yields from frost.

The government says it hopes the program will lead to more wine being produced both for local consumption and to be exported internationally.

There are more than 500 grape growers in the province supplying 146 wineries.
