TORONTO - The agency in charge of overseeing Ontario's policing is taking the first steps in its review of police actions during last June's G20 summit.

The Office of the Independent Police Review Director on Thursday laid out the framework for its probe of systemic issues that led to public complaints against police during the summit.

The review will gather information, review complaints and conduct investigations in order to identify issues arising from policing during the G20.

The aim of the review is to identify issues and make recommendations to address the policing of large protests.

A final report will be released to the public summarizing the findings of the review and outlining any recommendations.

The role of the Office of the Independent Police Review Director is to maintain public confidence in police oversight and make sure that public complaints against police are dealt with fairly.
