TORONTO -- A man is dead, and another is in critical condition after a 'brazen' shooting in north Etobicoke Sunday night.
Toronto police responded to reports of a shooting outside a townhouse complex on Mount Olive Drive, west of Kipling Avenue, around 7:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, they located two male victims who are in their early 20s suffering from gunshot wounds, Insp. Tim Crone said.
One of the victims was pronounced dead on the scene, while the other was rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Crone said they are looking for two suspects but he did not provide any description.
He noted that they believe the suspects fled in a vehicle described as a black SUV that was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed.
"It was right at twilight, so a lot of a lot of kids are still out with their families, and again it was a very cowardly, brazen act with absolutely zero regard for safety," Crone said.
He noted that the suspects fired in multiple directions. An upstairs window of one of the townhouse units was struck by bullets.
Investigators are also asking for two people who were with the victims at the time of the shooting.
"They fled the scene. We would like to speak to them as well again to find out who they are and make sure that they're not injured themselves," Crone said.
"It's very important that we speak with them to find out exactly what transpired and again if they have any information in terms of who these two shooters might be."
Residents should expect a large police presence in the area for several hours as police conduct their investigation and canvass the neighbourhood for witnesses and video surveillance, Crone said.
"It's very important that we track them down as quickly as we can."
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
