TORONTO - Ontario's new lottery regulator is banning its employees from buying lottery tickets.
Now that the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. is being overseen by the alcohol and gaming commission, its 450 employees will soon be banned from buying Super-7 and Lotto 6-49 tickets.
Ab Campion, spokesperson for the commission, says the new rules just reflect the commission's new responsibility for the province's lottery system.
The rules don't apply to lottery retailers or employees of the OLG.
Teresa Roncon, with the OLG, says there are no plans to ban employees or retailers from buying tickets since that was rejected by the provincial ombudsman in his recent review of the system.
Ombudsman Andre Marin recommended the commission take over investigations at the OLG following suggestions retailers were claiming a disproportionate number of prizes.
