An elderly couple has been found dead in their east-end Toronto home. Police suspect it's a case of murder-suicide.
The couple, who are in their 80s, was found by a relative in their house on Pharmacy Avenue, near Ellesmere Road, just before 7 p.m.
The 81-year-old woman, had been shot in the bedroom and the 83-year-old man was found dead in his garage, also suffering from a gun wound, police said.
Investigators said they are not looking for any suspects.
Both the man and the woman were in frail health. The woman, identified by neighbours as Jessie Kling, was suffering from cancer. Her husband, identified as Ed Kling, was taking care of her, but lately, he suffered from heart problems.
"I've known them for 48 years," said neighbour Ramon Smith. "I haven't even seen her for the last two months. Ed, her husband was a very quiet man. I never seemed to be able to get much information from him.
"I never had the feeling he wanted me to come into the house so every once in a while I'd walk by and ask him how Jessie's doing," he continued, speaking to CTV News.
Smith said the couple lived there since the development was first built in 1954. They had three children but went through difficult times when one of their daughters committed suicide.
"They were a really nice couple," said neighbour Jim Patsakos. "We never expected anything like this to happen."
