Toronto Mayor Rob Ford lost 10 pounds in the first week of his public weight-loss challenge but says he still has plenty more to lose before he can start celebrating.

Ford weighed in at 320 lbs. Monday morning, exactly one week after he and brother Coun. Doug Ford launched their "Cut the Waist Challenge," a personal project meant to help the pair get healthy while raising money for charity.

Ford weighed in at 330 lbs. last week.

"It is basically just running a lot, lifting weights and not eating – well, eating very little. Eating like a rabbit," Ford told reporters.

"Just stay focused. It is mind over matter."

Doug Ford also dropped weight over the first week of the challenge – going from 275 lbs. to 266 lbs.

"This is the toughest thing myself and Rob have ever done," he said. "We have both been exercising vigorously every day."

Both Fords said that curbing their eating habits were the hardest part about the challenge; the mayor joked that he almost gets a speeding ticket every time he drives past an ice cream store.

Ford said his goal was to drop 50 lbs. over the next six months.

Members of the public are invited to join the brothers in losing weight by logging on to a website where people can share their stories.

Residents who are interested in making a donation are encouraged to send their contributions directly to a charity of their choice.

A meter at cutthewaist.ca says $298.05 had been raised for charity through the weight-loss challenge.
