A Toronto man has been accused of sexually assaulting eight girls while riding on public transit.

Police say a suspect approached eight different girls on the Kennedy 43 TTC bus route over the last year and allegedly assaulted them before leaving the bus and walking away.

The girls are between the ages of 13 and 17 years old.

Toronto authorities first alerted the public to the assaults in September. At the time, they said they started receiving complaints about the assaults in November, 2008. Police say they believe there are more victims who have yet to come forward.

A suspect was arrested Thursday morning at 8:48 a.m.

Kannaa Ponniah, 47, has been charged in connection with the case. He is facing eight counts of sexual assault and five counts of sexual interference.

Anyone with information is being asked to call police at 416-808-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
