WHITBY, Ont. - Durham Region police say they were forced to use a Taser to subdue an irate driver during a routine RIDE check.
Police say a 47-year-old Toronto man was stopped around 1:15 a.m. Monday in Port Perry and began swearing and yelling at officers.
After police served him with two tickets, he reportedly became enraged, got out of his vehicle and assaulted an officer.
Police say the officer deployed his Taser to subdue the man, who was later charged with assaulting police.
Durham police laid no impaired driving charges during the safety blitz -- which took place in Port Perry, Bowmanville, Courtice, Oshawa, Whitby and Pickering -- but two people did face drug charges.
