TORONTO - Toronto's troubled public housing agency has a new chief executive officer, for now.
Len Koroneos will serve as interim CEO for Toronto Community Housing, following the forced departure of the previous CEO and board of directors.
Most of the civilian members of the board quit in early March after a spending and expense scandal at the public housing corporation.
City council voted to dismiss the remaining board members a week later and the CEO was asked to step down as well.
Former city councillor Case Ootes was then appointed managing director and assumed the duties of all 13 previous board members.
Ootes announced Thursday that Koroneos -- the corporation's chief financial officer -- will take over Monday on an interim basis until a new board of directors can find a permanent CEO later this year.
An auditor's report in late February revealed tens of thousands of dollars in questionable purchases by staff at the corporation, including parties, chocolates, a boat cruise and spa trips and millions of dollars in improperly awarded contracts.
Mayor Rob Ford said taxpayers had every right to be upset about the wasteful spending at the corporation, which serves more than 164,000 low and moderate-income tenants.
