Prime Minister Stephen Harper attended a funeral held Monday for a six-year-old girl who was fatally struck by a vehicle in Toronto's Leaside neighbourhood last week.

Georgia Walsh died in hospital after she was hit by a van at Millwood Road and McRae Drive on Wednesday afternoon. A service was held at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's on Bloor Street East at 2 p.m. Monday.

Walsh was the daughter of John Walsh, president of the Conservative Party of Canada, and had recently met Harper with her father.

"Georgia was a special girl and though her passing leaves a giant hole in our hearts and our lives, the outpouring of love in the last five days speaks to who she was," her family said in a statement.

The Walsh family thanked the community for sending food, cards and loving messages, as well as tying pink ribbons on trees in the Leaside neighbourhood as a memorial.

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne also attended the funeral, as did Toronto mayoral candidate John Tory.

Meanwhile, a tribute page set up to honour Walsh has raised more than $66,650 for Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to SickKids hospital, where Walsh was cared for following the crash.
