TORONTO - A three-year-old girl remains in hospital with life-threatening head injuries after falling from an apartment balcony in east-end Toronto.

Toronto police Const. Tony Vella says investigators are still trying to determine if the girl fell on her own or was pushed from the balcony early Thursday.

A 24-year-old woman was also taken to hospital after police and emergency task force members were called to an apartment building at 915 Midland Avenue.

Police are not releasing the relationship between the woman and the girl.

Officers have interviewed residents of the apartment building and are examining video from security cameras.

No charges have been laid and police are urging anyone with information to contact them.

"It's definitely a suspicious investigation at this point," Vella said.

"We're still trying to determine exactly what the sequence of events prior to the girl falling were."
