It appears Toronto councillor Adam Giambrone might indeed take a stab at the mayor's chair in the upcoming municipal election.
So far, Giambrone, 32, has remained coy about his intentions from the start, only telling the media that he would reveal his plan at the end of January.
But this past weekend, Giambrone announced he would be hosting a party on Feb. 1 to "celebrate Toronto."
The invitation promises the party at College Street hotspot Revival would be "full of celebration and excitement." The party is expected to be the official kickoff to his campaign.
Giambrone has refused to comment on the rampant speculation surrounding his possible interest in the city's top job, even after a recent poll put him in second place behind former Ontario cabinet minister George Smitherman.
The poll showed 44 per cent of Torontonians support Smitherman, while 17 per cent support Giambrone and 15 per cent support Liberal backbencher Rocco Rossi.
Giambrone is currently the youngest member on council. He was elected in 2003, when he was 26 years old.
Since then he has made a name for himself as the chair of TTC, becoming a close ally of outgoing mayor David Miller.
In 2008, he was named "Best City Politician" by NOW magazine.
