TORONTO - The Crown has dropped explosives and weapons charges laid against a Toronto woman just before last summer's G20 summit.
Lawyer Brian Heller says Kristen Peterson is ecstatic following the Crown decision Wednesday to withdraw the charges.
Peterson had been charged with one count of possession of explosive substances and one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
Heller says Peterson has been treated fairly and courteously by the police and the judicial system since her arrest last June.
Peterson's husband Byron Sonne, who was arrested last June 22, is charged with possession of explosives and dangerous weapons, as well as intimidation of a justice system participant and mischief.
Heller says his client can now begin the difficult task of getting back to her life.
"It is very tough to put the genie back in the bottle of the adverse publicity arising from the arrest," Heller said Wednesday. "But this is a fair start."
Police converged on the couple's million-dollar Forest Hill home just days before world leaders descended on Toronto for the G20 summit.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Janet Wilson denied bail for Sonne last October and he remains in custody.
Wilson's reasons for denying bail are subject to a publication ban.
