While the ongoing problem of falling glass from high-rise condos made news again this week with yet another incident, it appears that the problem may be worse than previously expected.
This week alone, glass has fallen in separate incidents on both Monday and Tuesday, and CTV Toronto's Austin Delaney reports that more cases have seemingly gone unreported over the summer.
Such cases have led to rising concern among both residents and city officials, and some residents have said that they will move out of their homes because of the issue.
One resident, Hayley MacPhee, says that glass fell onto her terrace on Monday at the South Murano condo tower in the city's downtown. The glass was so sharp it cut through her outdoor furniture.
While MacPhee said the incident was shocking, she said it's not the first time it's happened.
In fact, MacPhee showed photos she snapped in April of a similar incident in which glass rained down.
While the owners of the Murano, which is located at Bay and College Streets, say that April's incident was the first, city officials ask that all incidents should be reported immediately so repairs could be made immediately.
However, Delaney reports that between the north and south towers of Murano, there have been seven cases of glass shattering. Local councillors told Delaney that the numbers are concerning.
A statement from the developers, Lanterra Developments, indicated on Wednesday afternoon that they are working with city officials to rectify the issues.
They also promised to replace all the glass panels from the building's balconies with sturdier materials similar to those used in vehicle windshields.
