Former Ornge air ambulance CEO Dr. Chris Mazza is refusing a call to appear before an Ontario legislative committee for a second time.
Mazza already appeared before the committee once on July 18, where he was grilled on his $1.4-million annual compensation and an alleged kickback scheme with an Italian helicopter firm.
But, that appearance came only after weeks of requests and finally two Speaker’s warrants, which required Mazza to appear by law.
After his July 18 appearance, MPPs said they had more questions for Mazza, and asked him to come back when the committee met again, on July 31, August 1 or August 2.
Mazza’s lawyer confirmed on Friday that his client will not comply with that request.
Mazza’s lawyer continues to argue that his client is medically unfit to testify before the committee, saying he is both physically and mentally unwell.
Since MPPs aren’t sitting, the Speaker cannot issue another warrant ordering Mazza to testify until the fall session resumes.
