Ontario's embattled air ambulance service is taking legal action to retrieve $1.2 million in loans it gave to former head Chris Mazza, according to reports.
The Globe and Mail reports that Mazza, the former CEO of Ornge who was removed from his position earlier this month, is being sued over several loans he received during his six-year tenure.
The Globe cites an official close to Ornge who said Mazza received a $500,000 housing loan in 2010 and two other loans totalling $700,000 last year.
Mazza and another top official were formally removed of their positions at Ornge on Feb. 2. He went on indefinite medical leave in December after his taxpayer-paid $1.4 million salary was made public.
Ornge is a not-for-profit charitable organization that receives $150 million a year in provincial funding.
Several for-profit companies set up by Ornge are undergoing a provincial audit.
Ornge's board of directors has been replaced and it has been ordered to shut down its for-profit companies.
According to Globe's report, Mazza bought an Etobicoke house in August, 2010 for $735,000, which is now up for sale for $1.4 million.
