Dozens of drivers were caught in the Ontario Provincial Police blitz of GTA highways this long weekend.

Two OPP airplanes flying over the region's highways caught speeding drivers who were headed to and from cottage country.

The eyes in the sky were able to help OPP officers target drivers on the 401 in the Durham Region, as well as Highway 115, which leads to the Kawarthas and Peterborough.

OPP officers caught a speeder every three minutes.

Police confiscated the car of one Toronto family caught travelling to cottage country at 160 kilometres per hour.

The family had to pile their belongings into a taxi.

Another driver, who was in the province from New York State, was caught travelling at 227 kilometres per hour.

However, despite the speeding cars, OPP Const. Dave Woodford said there was a 33 per cent decrease in traffic fatalities compared to the same time last year.

The final tally of motorists who have lost their licenses, or their cars, or who are facing other driving related charges, will be released on Tuesday.
