Sources say it was a missing page—not emotion— that abruptly ended Adam Giambrone's announcement that he was dropping out of Toronto's mayoral race.

Two unnamed sources close to the campaign told the Toronto Star that staff only gave him the first page of his two-page speech.

Giambrone addressed reporters Wednesday in the wake of reports by a 20-year-old woman who says she had a relationship with the TTC chair.

Kristen Lucas says the relationship included sex on his city hall couch. She also says Giambrone gave her confidential information about TTC business.

On Wednesday, Giambrone called a news conference and apologized to his live-in girlfriend Sarah McQuarrie for cheating with several women.

Giambrone read the statement for about a minute, said thank you, then abruptly left the stage without taking questions.

Giambrone's executive assistant Kevin Beaulieu emerged a few minutes later to say the councillor would drop out of the mayor's race he joined only days before.

"In the emotion of the moment, Adam was unable to finish the statement," said Beaulieu.

The anonymous source told The Star that Giambrone's office wants to make it clear that the councillor did not abruptly leave because he lost the nerve.
