Toronto police have arrested and charged a 31-year-old man after two women were sexually assaulted in their homes within an hour of each other on Thursday night. The suspect was found asleep on the couch in the second home.
Authorities say a man entered the first home in the Brimley Road and Finch Avenue East area at about 10:30 p.m.
The man allegedly entered the home through a rear sliding door and went upstairs where a 55-year-old woman was watching television in the living room.
The accused approached the woman, pushing her down on the couch and putting his hand over her mouth. However, police say another woman in the home heard the commotion and went to help, screaming at the accused.
Witnesses told police the man then calmly got up and walked out of the front door.
Police were called, but the accused had left the scene.
A short time later, an 81-year-old woman was sexually assaulted when a man entered her home through the unlocked front door.
Police said the woman was watching television in her living room when the man entered. He is alleged to have grabbed the woman, forced her to the floor, then sexually assaulted her.
In a strange twist, police say the man then fell asleep on a couch in the woman's home, where he was found by police after the woman called 911.
The accused, Kevin Michael Lewis of Toronto, was scheduled to appear at the Eglinton Avenue courts on Friday to face five counts related to both incidents.
Police are urging Toronto residents to keep their doors locked.
