WINNIPEG - The Toronto Argonauts won their second game of the season, and they did it without leading receiver Arland Bruce III.

Argonauts kicker Justin Medlock connected on all four of his field-goal attempts and Jamal Robertson rushed for a touchdown as the Argonauts beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 19-5 Friday night

The Argonauts evened their record at 2-2, tying them for second place in the East Division with Hamilton.

Winnipeg dropped into last place in the East at 1-3. Montreal leads the division at 4-0.

Toronto went into the game under a cloud of controversy after rookie head coach Bart Andrus left Bruce at home for unprofessional behaviour.

The Argos put aside any distractions and got a one-yard TD dive by Robertson, while Medlock hit field goals from 22, 46, 31 and 44 yards. Robertson finished with 24 carries for 101 yards.

Winnipeg running back Fred Reid rushed 12 times for 32 yards.

The Bomber offence, which has been scrutinized for its struggles under new head coach and offensive co-ordinator Mike Kelly, only produced a 35-yard field goal by Alexis Serna.

Medlock also gave Winnipeg two more points when he conceded a safety late in the game in front of 28,466 fans at Canad Inns Stadium.

Winnipeg used all three of its quarterbacks.

Starting quarterback Stefan LeFors was pulled in favour of Bryan Randall after the first half, in which the Bombers only managed one first down.

LeFors, who went into the game completing 44 per cent of his passes, was 7-of-11 for 30 yards and one interception.

Randall was replaced by Richie Williams at the beginning of the fourth quarter after going 1-of-5 for six yards and one interception.

Williams was 3-of-10 for 30 yards during his turn at the helm.

Toronto quarterback Kerry Joseph finished the game completing 14-of-28 for 144 yards and two interceptions.

The first quarter featured three of the game's eight turnovers: two fumbles, four interceptions and two turnovers on downs.

Joseph was picked off after the ball was touched and fluttered across the field into the hands of defensive back Jovan Johnson. The turnover ended with Serna's 35-yarder at 4:27.

Argos defensive back Jason Shivers stripped the ball from Bombers receiver Brock Ralph for a fumble, leading to Medlock's 22-yarder at 9:20.

Shivers then intercepted a poorly thrown ball by LeFors, who was booed by the home crowd, but the Argos didn't capitalize and the quarter ended 3-3.

The Argos had two first downs in the opening quarter and Winnipeg one.

Toronto scored 13 unanswered points in the second quarter for a 16-3 half-time lead.

Medlock booted a pair from 46 and 31 yards and Robertson dove in for his TD.

Winnipeg had 53 yards total offence in the first half compared to Toronto's 178 yards, including 107 yards through the air.

After Medlock hit a 44-yarder at 4:44 of the third to make it 19-3, it looked like the Bombers might come to life with a Toronto turnover.

Winnipeg linebacker Barrin Simpson forced a fumble recovered by teammate Siddeeq Shabazz, but on the next play Randall was intercepted by Kevin Eiben.

The exchange of gifts didn't result in any points.

The Bombers got another chance when Johnson intercepted Joseph for the second time, but Williams came in for his first series and it ended in a punt.

The only scoring of the fourth quarter was a safety Medlock conceded with less than two minutes remaining.
