MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Air ambulance service Ornge says it will relocate its southern Ontario operations from Toronto Island to a new facility in Hamilton next year.

Ornge says the current base at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport no longer meets its increasing needs.

The Ornge hangar in Toronto does not allow for expansion and enhancement of services.

Work will begin in the coming months to outfit an existing hangar at Hamilton International Airport for transport medicine.

Ornge officially gave notice last Friday to employees of the Ornge Toronto base of its intention to move operations to Hamilton in 2011.

Ornge says there will be no job losses associated with the move -- staffing levels will remain unchanged at the new base.
