Toronto police have released security camera images of three males wanted for allegedly taking part in a debit card fraud scheme involving taxi drivers.
According to police, as the taxi customer handed their debit card to the driver to pay the fee, the driver would switch the customer’s card for one that resembled their own.
Once obtained, police say the taxi driver would use the customer’s card to withdraw funds and purchase retail items.
On June 2, police arrested and charged 25-year-old Toronto resident Ahmed Dogar with theft of credit card, six counts of possessing credit card obtained by crime, five counts of fraud under $5000, fraud over $5000 and three counts of forgery.
Police say the suspect now faces an additional charge of possessing a credit card obtained by crime, another charge of fraud exceeding $5000 and two more forgery charges.
A second man, identified as 25-year-old Toronto-resident Muhammad Tariq, was also charged in the case. The suspect faces three counts of fraud under $5000, three counts of possessing credit card obtained by crime and forgery.
Police have now released security camera images of three other males wanted in connection with the investigation.
Police say they have been investigating the scheme since last year and believe there may be other victims.
