Teachers will not be inputting data into report cards, but elementary school students in Durham, York and Peel regions will still be able to receive their marks.

Traditional report cards will not be sent out at the end of the year, but the Toronto-area boards have decided to make the marks accessible to parents through marks summaries.

Teachers have already submitted marks for all students in the Durham District School Board, the board said in a statement on Wednesday. DDSB staff members are inputting the marks with the goal of producing report cards by June 25. The report cards will then be sent home with students at the end of the day.

The report cards will include marks for learning skills and school subjects, as well as class promotion information. They will not include comments from students' teachers.

In York Region, elementary students will not receive a formal report, but parents and guardians can request a marks summary.

Starting Aug. 31, parents and guardians can visit their child's school and receive a summary of the marks submitted by teachers at the end of the year, the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) said Wednesday.

There will be no cost to implement the solution, and non-unionized staff will input the marks provided by teachers over the summer months, the board said.

"Our teachers are professionals who have supported your child's achievement and well-being throughout the year," YRDSB Director of Education J. Philip Parappally said in the statement.

"While they are bound by the (Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario) provincial strike mandate to not complete report cards, we appreciate that mark information is important to you."

The YRDSB said students will still be given grade placement information on the last day of school.

Also on Wednesday, the Peel District School Board issued a statement saying that its schools will not be sending out report cards or marks this year. Instead, the board said that principals and vice-principals will do their best to assist parents who request marks.

"However, given the enormity of this task, principals will not be able to provide marks in June to all parents who request them," the statement said.

The statement said Peel principals hope to have all requested marks to parents by the end of September.

In Toronto, elementary school students in the public board will receive a summary of grades mailed to them in mid-July. The Toronto District School Board said Tuesday that the summary will include details about attendance and grade placement for the 2015-16 school year.

In April, the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario announced its work-to-rule campaign, which the teachers’ union says will continue until a deal has been reached with the school boards.

The job action means teachers are not performing administrative duties including writing comments on report cards and inputting grades.
