A 49-year-old Toronto woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly tried to push a mom and her child onto the subway tracks at Bay station.

Police say that the 33-year-old mother was walking along the station's westbound platform with her six-month-old child around 11:40 a.m. Friday.

Officers allege that the suspect then shoved the victim and her baby, who was in a stroller, towards the subway tracks.

The mother, however, managed to largely maintain her balance and she did not fall onto the track area.

Officers are currently reviewing security camera footage of the incident.

TTC spokesman Brad Ross said that no train was approaching at the time of the incident. However, he expressed relief that no serious injuries resulted.

Anne Carruthers of Toronto has been charged with assault and two counts of mischief for endangering life.

She will appear at the Old City Hall court on Saturday morning.
