Toronto police believe a 23-year-old Winnipeg woman found shot in the head in Toronto's Port Lands area more than a week ago knew her killer and said her death is unrelated to her work in the sex trade.
Police also said they have recovered clothing and other personal belongings of Leanne Freeman in a commercial dumpster about a 20-minute drive from where she was found.
The items were found by a business owner and reported to police last Friday, Det-Sgt. Brian Borg said at a press conference Friday.
"This property, I believe, was deposited by the person or persons who killed Leanne, right after her murder," he said.
Two green Waste Management dumpsters were cordoned off with yellow police tape at the back of a business parking lot on Kingston Road that day.
Borg described Freeman as transient, not homeless.
Police wouldn't say if they found anything on a security video.
