TORONTO - Injured Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Vesa Toskala underwent surgery to repair a labrum tear in his hip, the club announced Tuesday.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Marc Philippon at the Vail Valley Surgery Center in Vail, Colo., on Monday evening. Toskala's rehabilitation time is expected to be 12 weeks.
Backup Curtis Joseph and trade deadline waiver pickup Martin Gerber will likely share starts down the stretch.
In other news, defenceman Mike Van Ryn is also officially done for the season after sustaining a medial collateral ligament tear in his left knee during the first period of the game against Edmonton on March 7.
The injury does not require surgery and his recovery time is expected to be 10 weeks.
Van Ryn played only 27 games this season because of various injuries, including two concussions.
Blue-liner Jonas Frogren was also injured during the first period against Edmonton on Saturday. He suffered a sprain of his medial collateral knee ligament and his expected recovery time is four weeks.
