The chief operating officer at ORNGE air ambulance who was demoted earlier this week for faking an MBA has now been fired.

Rick Potter, former chief operating officer at ORNGE, was found to have lied about having an MBA and was demoted to be in charge of a transition program that was to end March 31.

Today, ORNGE confirmed that Potter's employment was terminated as of March 1.

He will continue to work until March 31, but will not be employed after that point, ORNGE confirmed.

This is the latest incident in a string of problems for the air ambulance service.

Earlier this week, Progressive Conservative transportation critic Frank Klees said the helicopters were unsafe due to reported problems with the tail rotor falling off the same model of helicopter ORNGE uses.

OPP are also investigating financial irregularities at ORNGE.

In January, Health Minister Deb Matthews replaced the entire ORNGE board of directors and the CEO, who was making $1.4 million per year before he was replaced.
