A 15-year-old male who called Niagara police claiming his friend was drowning has since admitted the phone call was a prank, authorities said Thursday.
The male claimed that his friend was drowning off the pier near the lighthouse. Police searched in Port Dalhousie for hours after receiving the call from the teen but located no one.
Officials located the teen that made the call and questioned him.
At the conclusion of the investigation, police confirmed that the teen had "fabricated the report."
The 15-year-old, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released from police custody.
Authorities said he was held accountable for his actions but was not charged.
