A 17-year-old male is dead after he was struck by a TTC bus near Woodbine Park on Friday night.

Police said three teens had just left a beach party and were trying to cross Lakeshore Boulevard East, near Northern Dancer Boulevard, at a marked pedestrian crossing shortly after 10 p.m.

Two of the teens decided not to attempt the crossing, but the third teen, identified as Alex Gillespie, walked into the eastbound passing lane and was hit by a bus.

"The bus driver honked and braked really hard," but Gillespie slipped under the wheels, Det. Const. Surjit Kang of Toronto Police Traffic Services told CTV News.

"All I heard was the bus screech and honk its horn and everybody started screaming, and all I saw was somebody laying on the ground," one witness said. "My heart just dropped. It was unbelievable."

Gillespie, who attended Rosedale Heights Secondary School, was trapped under the bus and emergency services workers tried frantically to free him. He was pronounced dead in hospital.
