GUELPH, Ont. - Accused of dodging voters on the campaign trail to avoid having to answer potentially unflattering questions, Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty made no attempt to escape a young aboriginal student during a stop at a Guelph vocational high school on Thursday.

McGuinty opted to ask the questions instead of answer them during a short assembly with mostly underage kids, but was later confronted by an 18-year-old who wanted to know what the government's doing to ensure First Nations children are getting the same education as non-aboriginals.

Grade 12 student J.J. Norton says he's tired of hearing about native uprisings on the news and the lack of education for First Nations communities.

He says he wanted to know what Ontario plans to do about it.

McGuinty told him the government is working hard to ensure all "Ontarians off reserve'' are getting the best possible education.

He says the province is working with the federal government to settle land claims disputes.
