TORONTO - The province's Special Investigations Unit will look into the shooting death Saturday of a 24-year-old man by Ontario Provincial Police in Renfrew, Ont.

The SIU says police were responding to a family disturbance call around 4:30 p.m. when two officers became involved in a confrontation with a man outside the home.

One officer fired his gun and struck the man.

The man, who has not yet been identified by police, was taken to hospital and pronounced dead.

There were no other injuries as a result of the incident.

The civilian agency is called in to investigate situations involving police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or death.
