Ontario’s police watchdog has released the name of a woman who was fatally struck by a Toronto police cruiser.

The Special Investigations Unit is continuing its investigation into the circumstances that lead to the death of 64-year-old Satyawatti Katryan.

Katryan died after being struck by a police vehicle Saturday around 12:30 p.m. near Highway 27 and Rexdale Boulevard. The police cruiser was escorting a funeral procession northbound on Highway 27.

According to SIU spokesperson Frank Phillips, Katryan was crossing from the east side of Highway 27 when she was struck by the police car.

Emergency crews pronounced Katryan dead at the scene.

The SIU has assigned six investigators, a collision reconstruction expert and three forensic investigators to continue investigating the incident.
