TORONTO - The province's Special Investigations Unit has cleared several Toronto police officers of criminal wrongdoing in the death of a man who died in hospital after a physical struggle with the officers.
On Nov. 12, 2006, Jasen Drnasin boarded a Toronto transit bus and punched a passenger he didn't know.
When police tried to arrest Drnasin, he resisted, and the officers punched and kneed him during an eight-minute struggle to subdue him.
Shortly after his arrest he went into medical distress, was taken to hospital and remained in critical condition until he died on Nov. 27.
Drnasin's exact cause of death remains unknown.
The SIU has concluded there is no evidence indicating Drnasin was choked, and that the altercation was a reasonable move by the officers.
