Mayor Rob Ford spoke with residents of a north west housing complex on Thursday afternoon, on one of the hottest days of the year.
The mayor spoke with residents on every floor of the Jane Milo housing complex, owned by Toronto Community Housing. The complex is located at 4400 Jane St. near the intersection of Jane Street and Finch Avenue.
Residents told the mayor what improvements they would like to see to their homes. One of the most popular requests among the residents was for more air conditioning units.
In a press conference outside the complex, Ford told reporters that he would relay the information to city staff.
“Obviously I’d like to get air conditioning in every single unit if we can, but we’re working on that,” he said, while mopping his brow.
“That’s what we mean by recognizing the problems and addressing them,” he added.
If residents of the housing complex want air conditioning, they must pay an additional $45 a month. Many residents told Ford that this is beyond what they can afford.
