A joint police force investigation into an alleged street gang has resulted in charges against four adults and a youth. One suspect is also charged in a kidnapping and attempted murder.
At about 6 a.m. on Tuesday, officers raided two homes in Toronto, one near Yonge Street and Finch Avenue, and the other in the area of Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue. At the latter location, at least six people were taken into custody.
Two homes in York region were raided. Police said the warrants were issued because of alleged gang, gun and drug activity.
One of the suspects rounded up, a 21-year-old Toronto man, was wanted in connection to an investigation that stemmed from a kidnapping and shooting last month.
In that incident on April 22, a 25-year-old man was kidnapped from the Bayview and Finch Avenues area and then driven to a rural area east of Newmarket, police said.
York police were called about the shooting and officers found the victim , who had been shot several times. He suffered serious injuries, police said.
York police, the Toronto Police Asian Organized Crime Task Force (AOCTF) and the Guns and Gangs Task Force worked together in the month-long investigation. The AOCTF is a Toronto police-led, joint-force team also comprises of the OPP, the RCMP, the Canadian Border Service Agency, York police and Peel police.
Chanh Duc (Hector) Ho, faces 11 charges, including, kidnapping, attempted murder while using a firearm and fleeing police.
Eric Ho, 19, of Toronto; Chi Duc David Ho, 18, of Markham; Thang Ho, 49, of Markham; and a 17-year-old girl from Toronto face various drug trafficking charges.
The accused were to appear in court on Tuesday.
