Black Canadian justice strategy still in the works, as advocates call for reform

The federal government is being urged to follow through with its commitment to develop a Black Canadian justice strategy. The Liberal government committed to creating such a strategy in the 2021 election campaign after advocacy groups and the United Nations raised serious concerns over anti-Black racism in the Canadian criminal justice system.

'Incredibly frustrating' visa delays could thwart another Montreal conference

Another global conference in Montreal risks being derailed by Canada's delays in processing visas as well as rejections that critics argue punish those from poorer countries. Entire panels planned for next month in Montreal are on hiatus because, in multiple cases, six participants on a panel all lack a visa to enter Canada.

Hope fading as deaths in Turkiye, Syria quake pass 11,000

With the hope of finding survivors fading, stretched rescue teams in Turkiye and Syria searched Wednesday for signs of life in the rubble of thousands of buildings toppled by a catastrophic earthquake. The confirmed death toll from the world's deadliest quake in more than a decade passed 11,000.
