Police are offering a $50,000 reward in an effort to solve the 1972 murder of a Toronto-area teen.
Weston, Ont. teenager Yvonne Leroux, 16, disappeared on the evening of Nov. 29, 1972. She was last seen near the York Finch General Hospital, now called the Humber River Hospital, located at Finch Avenue and Norfinch Drive. It is believed that she had just finished attending a counselling session at the hospital.
Her body was found the next day on 16th Side Road between Jane and Keele Streets in King Township, and it was determined that she died as a result of blunt force trauma.
At the time of the murder, officers interviewed people who knew Leroux and followed up on tips supplied by the public, but the teen's death remained unsolved.
York Regional Police are still looking for new clues 42 years after the murder. With advances in forensic science and a renewed plea for information from the public, investigators said in a news release that they are hopeful that the case will finally move forward. The reward will be in effect until March 26, 2015.
Leroux was described as approximately 5-foot-3 with a medium build and long, wavy brown hair. She was last seen wearing a navy blue wool coat, a white shirt, blue jeans, three-quarter-length tan boots, a brown purse and a metal chain.
