A man who was shot in Toronto’s east end just as crowds were leaving a Canada Day fireworks display at Woodbine Beach had been involved in an altercation with a large group of men, police said.

Police say a group of 10 to 15 men were seen running north on Woodbine Avenue towards Queen Street after Sunday night’s shooting.

Police say the shots were fired in a townhouse complex at Winners Circle and Lakeshore Boulevard as crowds were leaving the nearby fireworks show at around 10:30 p.m.

The victim was shot in the chest and rushed to hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Police say his injuries are non-life threatening.

Police were at the shooting scene Monday morning. They are asking anyone with information to contact them.
