Police are urging the public to come forward with information involving a hit and run in Richmond Hill that killed a 70-year-old Kitchener man.
York Regional Police say Sam Pham was struck while walking on the sidewalk on North Lake Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
Pham, a retired engineer and grandfather, was apparently visiting family in the area at the time of the accident.
Pham was taken to a nearby hospital and succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
Holding up a photo of her father, Pham's daughter pleaded for the driver to surrender to police.
"We can see that this is an accident. My family forgives you, we will forgive you. It's a big loss for us, it's hard but we'll try, we'll try," Christina Pham told CTV News.
Police believe the suspect was driving a maroon colored truck or SUV at the time of the incident.
"It could be from anything, from a person who made a minor mistake and is scared and left, or was too impaired; a stolen vehicle, no insurance, doesn't want anything on their driving record. But they've done the wrong thing," Sgt. Dave Mitchell told CTV News on Wednesday.
Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to contact York Regional Police.
The accident happened just two metres from where Terri Callaway, 37, was run down in December 2006.
Callaway, the mother of four young children, was struck by an alleged drunk driver while jogging along the sidewalk near her home.
