Heavy snow overnight made for a tricky commute Wednesday morning and may have caused one aircraft to slide off a runway at Toronto's largest airport.
The Air Canada Jazz aircraft slid off the edge of the taxiway as it was preparing to take off from Pearson International Airport about11 p.m.
None of the 35 people on board were injured in the mishap, GTAA spokesperson Trish Krale told ctvtoronto.ca.
The aircraft, which was scheduled to fly to Sudbury, was towed back to the terminal building. The flight was then cancelled.
Krale said the weather "may have been a factor."
"I'm not going to speculate on the cause," she said.
Several flights were delayed Wednesday because of the blanket of snow on the ground.
Nearly 10 centimetres fell overnight at Pearson and in Toronto's downtown core.
Police reported more than 200 minor accidents on local roads since the snow began to fall late last night.
The weather is being blamed for an accident on the westbound lanes of Highway 403. Police closed down the area east of Cawthra Road as a result of the crash. An air ambulance is on its way and the fire department is at the scene.
Another major snowstorm is expected to hit the Greater Toronto Area on Friday. Environment Canada predicts that storm could dump another 15 centimetres on the ground.
