A passenger on a public transit bus in Toronto narrowly escaped serious injury after he was attacked with a knife during his ride home.
Police say the attack on the 22-year-old man was completely unprovoked and that the victim does not know his alleged assailant.
Witnesses told investigators that the attack happened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on a TTC bus travelling along Bathurst Street in an affluent north-Toronto neighbourhood.
Several passengers were on the bus when a suspect got out of his seat and allegedly attacked the young man, nicking his throat with a knife.
The driver pulled the bus to the side of the street near Ava Road to try to stop the attack. The suspect managed to leave the bus and flee from the scene.
Paramedics were called to the scene and deemed the victim's injuries to be minor. He was treated at the scene and released.
Authorities told CTV News that they arrested a suspect after looking at surveillance footage taken from a security camera on board the TTC bus.
Investigators identified a suspect and arrested a 27-year-old man inside a home on Briar Hill Avenue at around 2:15 a.m. with the help of the Toronto police Emergency Task Force.
The suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon but police say he could face more charges in connection with the incident.
