TORONTO - The opposition are skeptical about the McGuinty Liberals' motives as the government moves to expand services to help children with autism.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says she thinks it's a thinly veiled attempt to placate families ahead of next fall's election.

The Progressive Conservatives say the Liberals dragged their heels for years while determining which programs are most effective for kids with autism.

Youth Services Minister Laurel Broten says they will spend $25 million dollars a year to provide Applied Behaviour Analysis services and supports in community agencies and centres, schools and homes.

Parents have long asked for A-B-A services, which will help an estimated eight-thousand children and youth with autism.

Ontario already funds a more intensive form of A-B-A for 14-hundred children with more severe autism.
