The OPP has reopened Highway 400 southbound near King City following a series of accidents that ultimately involved about 30 vehicles and left up to four people with minor injuries.

And it all stemmed from one person driving "like an idiot," OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford told ctvtoronto.ca on Saturday. "You try to be polite about it, but that's usually what happens."

After that first collision, "it was chain-reaction collisions," he said.

Reports indicated there were three accident scenes around King Road. One involved six vehicles, the other nine and another 14 vehicles.

At 2:30 p.m., Woodford said the roads appeared to be in good condition, if a bit wet.

Early reports suggested there may have been slush built up on the road.

The weather today is clear and sunny. During Friday's snowstorm that dumped at least 15 centimetres in the GTA, the OPP reported at least 225 collisions.

A chain-reaction collision near Aurora Road involved 25 vehicles and sent five people to hospital with minor injuries. That accident left the southbound 400 lanes shut down for about three hours.

"People were driving by me as if they were indestructible," Woodford said Friday. "You've got to slow down, have some sense."

In a news release Friday, OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino added: "Too many drivers are not adjusting to the weather and road conditions. It is no mystery to me why the number of single motor vehicle crashes are starting to mount up."

Fantino said he would propose absolute liability legislation under the Highway Traffic Act so that irresponsible drivers could be held accountable.
