A government source has confirmed to CTV Toronto's Paul Bliss that Ontario's deficit has come down to $16.7 billion.
That means the deficit for the 2010-2011 fiscal year is $3 billion lower than projected in last year's budget.
The source said the reduction is a direct result of the government spending $3 billion less than what was forecast in the 2010 budget.
On Tuesday, Finance Minister Dwight Duncan will table the last budget for the McGuinty government before the province's fall election.
