TORONTO - Ontario Power Generation says all four power stations in a northeastern Ontario hydro project are now in operation.
OPG says the Upper Mattagami-Hound Chute hydro project was completed nearly five months ahead of schedule and on budget.
The new stations make more efficient use of water, and will produce enough electricity to power more than 22,000 homes every year.
Energy Minister Brad Duguid says the project was part of the province's plan to expand renewable energy capacity.
OPG president Tom Mitchell says the plants will continue to provide clean renewable electricity throughout the 21st century.
Sandy Falls Generating Station was the first plant to be completed, followed by Lower Sturgeon and Wawaitin, which were declared in service just over a week ago. Hound Chute is the final station to be placed in service.
