TORONTO - Green Party Leader Frank de Jong says a decision by broadcasters to shut him out of the Ontario leaders debate does a "huge disservice'' to electoral politics.
His comments came after a consortium of broadcasters announced on Tuesday that only the province's three main political parties would be invited to participate.
The 90-minute televised debate is slated to air at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 20.
De Jong says it's time for the debate to become a matter of electoral law rather than a whim of the entertainment industry.
He says the Green Party is up to 10 per cent in the polls, and suggests that with electoral reform, his party could see as many as a dozen members elected.
He says Prince Edward Island and British Columbia broadcasters have invited the Green Party to their debates and says it's time for Ontario to do the same.
