TORONTO - The McGuinty government has managed a rare move -- they have environmentalists and the forest industry mad at them.
The government did it with some last-minute changes to endangered species legislation which takes effect at the end of June.
The new act expands the number of protected animals in Ontario and allows scientists to determine which new species should be added each year.
Environmental groups are upset because the forestry industry got a one-year exemption which they say could threaten species such as the woodland caribou.
The forest industry is angry because it thought it would be permanently exempt from the act.
Natural Resources Minister Donna Cansfield says the government made it clear to the beleaguered industry that it would have to change the way it does business.
