Another C. difficile death is being reported by the Niagara Health System, this time at the St. Catharines General Hospital.

The death occurred Monday morning and officials said the patient also had several underlying health issues.

There have been at least 24 deaths since the C. difficile outbreak was declared at the end of May.

Niagara Health System officials say the patient did not acquire C. difficile from the hospital but from the community.

Over the weekend, an elderly patient at Welland Hospital died.

That person also had multiple health problems.
