KEMPTVILLE, Ont. - A 32-year-old woman has died after apparently trying in vain to save a 15-year-old boy from drowning in eastern Ontario.
Provincial police were called Saturday evening to the Rideau River in the Township of Merrickville-Wolford, south of Ottawa, in response to reports that a 15-year-old boy had been carried away by the current while swimming.
He was found in the water with no vital signs.
Police say several people had come to the boy's assistance, including the woman.
After being found east of the site with no vital signs 20 minutes later, the woman was taken to hospital where she was revived, but died shortly after midnight.
Neither of the names are being released.
