Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty said that all campuses in the province should review security measures in the wake of the shooting at Virginia Tech that claimed 33 lives.

McGuinty called the shooting at a U.S. college on Monday a "horrific tragedy," adding that his thoughts are with everyone affected by the massacre.

He said that Ontario is not "immune" to having a similar rampage occur and it is not helpful to pretend it couldn't happen.

"What we need to do here in Ontario, what I assume every jurisdiction around the world will be doing, is reviewing their own security provisions that are in place in our schools, our colleges, (and) our universities," McGuinty said.

"Whether that involves on-campus security or municipal police services - to ensure that we have the best available practices in place."

But the premier said he does not have an opinion on whether Ontario campuses should have armed guards to prevent any potential shooter.
